Let’s try to tune the VR sensor on my custom made car calculator !

Quick reminder: to trigger the technicien or injection the calculator need to know on which cycle the motor is. To do that the simplest method consist on having a encoded wheel turning at the same speed than the motor and reading it’s state with a sensor. There seem to be two types of sensors : hall sensors and inductive sensors. The hall sensor is basically a transistor and can be used almost directly on a microcontroler. The inductive one is trickier but also cheaper : you need a special circuit or component to deal with it. Guess the one we find on almost every car ? Yeah the inductive one.

After running the car without sparkplugs and connected the sensor to a oscilloscope we can see this :

This is the direct output of the sensor. Here we can see that the signal between + and – 4V in a cycle that repeat at 11Hz. The motor is running at 660rpm !

Fiat Panda Speeduino

Hello !

So I bought the cheapest car possible : 300 euros !

It’s a fiat panda 1 the motor is 1.1l FIRE engine and I think the fact that his name is FIRE is awesome. Now I want it to do real fire 🔥

It’s a really small car and one of the latest produced : 2004 !
And unfortunately, I don’t have the opening roof… yet 🪚 👀

The project goal is simple, i want a project car cheap and fun and will learn mechanics while working on it.

Obviously, the car wasn’t starting when i bought it and i had to bring it home with a rope attached to my CLIO 2, not an easy task because i had no breaks and my road is really difficult, i could only break with the hand brake. Don’t forget that the fiat weight only 750 kg !

At home i disassembled the electronic controller, don’t know if it was faulty but i wanted to replace it with my own anyway, and oh my god this left a lot of wires…
